Newer, larger roofs
Much of Allen's housing was built from the 1990s onward, with larger two-story homes and more complicated rooflines than the older suburbs closer to Dallas. More hips, valleys and dormers mean more places for water to find a way in, and inspections in Allen spend proportionally more time at valley and flashing details than a simpler older roof would need.
HOA guidelines
Many Allen subdivisions have an active homeowners association with a defined list of approved shingle colors and sometimes a required class of impact-resistant shingle. Checking that list before ordering material is a standard first step here, since a color rejected after installation is an expensive correction.
Hail and the newer shingle question
Because a large share of Allen's roofs are still on their original shingle, hail damage assessments there often turn up a roof that is functionally younger than the calendar suggests, which changes the repair-versus-replace math compared with an older suburb. A close inspection after any significant hail event is worth doing before assuming the worst or dismissing the damage.
Permits in Allen
Allen's building department issues re-roof permits and schedules its own inspection. Some subdivisions add HOA architectural review on top of the city permit, and both are confirmed before a job is scheduled so there are no surprises partway through.
Reaching Allen from the rest of the service area
Allen sits at the far edge of the coverage area from Richardson, and most jobs there are reached along US-75 north through Plano or by way of the George Bush Turnpike, which cuts the travel time down on a normal working day. That makes it practical to schedule an Allen inspection alongside other stops in Plano or east toward Murphy on the same trip.
Larger Allen properties near the turnpike sometimes include an attached structure with its own roofline, such as a detached garage or a covered outdoor living space, and those get measured and scoped as their own line item rather than folded into the main house estimate without explanation.
